1. Map sensitive data and user roles

Start with a plain list, not tools. What does the app collect?

Then map who can see or change each item: user, provider, support manager, admin, courier, doctor, teacher, seller or finance role. 2. Remove secrets from the app package

Anything shipped in an Android app can be inspected. Do not put private API keys, admin tokens, payment secrets, database credentials or signing secrets inside the app.

  • keep payment and privileged operations on the backend;
  • use short-lived tokens where possible;
  • treat public SDK keys as public;
  • rotate exposed keys quickly;

3. Minimize permissions

Android users notice permission prompts, and Google Play also cares about sensitive permission use. Ask for the minimum required permission, request it at the moment it is needed, and explain the benefit in normal language.

Review:

  • location access: precise vs approximate, foreground vs background;
  • camera and media access;
  • contacts and calendar access;
  • notification permission;
  • microphone and Bluetooth;
  • special permissions that require stronger justification.

4. Protect local storage

Do not store sensitive data locally unless the product needs it. If local data is required, use platform-appropriate secure storage, avoid saving tokens in plain text and define what happens on logout.

  • screenshots or logs do not expose private screens;
  • logout clears sensitive local state;
  • backups do not include data they should not include.

5. Secure network and backend access

The backend must enforce permissions on every request. The Android app should never be the only place where business rules live.

Review:

  • HTTPS is required for API traffic;
  • users can access only their own records;
  • provider/admin roles are checked server-side;
  • rate limits exist for risky actions;
  • file uploads are validated;
  • payment state is verified on the server;
  • error messages do not leak private details.

For marketplaces and delivery apps, pay special attention to order ownership, address visibility and provider actions.

6. Check authentication and recovery

Authentication includes sign-up, login, social login, password reset, account deletion, session expiry and support recovery.

A simple MVP can use a proven authentication provider. Higher-risk apps may need stronger recovery rules, device change checks, multi-factor options or step-up verification for sensitive actions.

7. Review SDKs, logs and analytics

Third-party SDKs can collect data, add permissions, affect performance and change store disclosures. Keep only what is needed for the product.

Before release:

  • remove unused SDKs;
  • check SDK privacy requirements;
  • confirm analytics events do not include private text, tokens or personal data;
  • review crash logs for sensitive values;
  • turn off verbose debug logs in release builds.

Analytics should help the team improve the product without turning private data into tracking noise.

8. Use Play Integrity where risk justifies it

Google's Android guidance points developers to tools such as Play Integrity API and Credential Manager for stronger protection and safer sign-in patterns. Not every MVP needs the same setup, but apps with payments, abuse risk, marketplace activity or paid content should at least discuss integrity checks.

9. Test the real release build

Run through:

  • logout and account deletion;
  • offline or slow-network states;
  • crash reporting and analytics;
